Just a stone’s throw
away…

Directly accessible by foot (steep!) from Chiavenna is the scenic hamlet of Pianazzola. An absolute must, one of the few mountain villages still inhabited year-around – this is where time stalled. It’s absolutely rewarding to climb the further 400 meters in elevation on historic mule tracks to Dalò. The view will take your breath!

The Acqua Fraggia waterfalls in Piuro are an impressive nature racket. Especially in late spring. Ample picnic meadow. Bar and Crotto around the corner.

As well located in Piuro is Palazzo Vertemate Franchi, one of the most interesting renaissance palaces of Lombardy from the 16th century. Guided tours in various languages.

Mountains and valleys

Three valleys, countless possibilities. Hiking, mountainbiking, Via Ferrata, canyoning, road cycling in summer. Alpine skiing, ski mountaineering, snowshoeing in winter.

Valle Spluga offers a nice ski resort with Madesimo, which turns into a MTB park during summer. A superb, solitary hike leads to Pian dei Cavalli with its wild horses, marmots and fabulous far sights. Who wants to stop for a bite hikes from Fraciscio to Rifugio Chiavenna and enjoys the view of the majestic Pizzo Stella.

Val Bregaglia is best explored on the panoramic path from Piuro through Cranna and Savogno towards the picturesque Swiss village of Soglio. Sight always on the granite giants on the other side of the valley.

Clear highlights in Valchiavenna are the flanking valleys of Val Bodengo with wild-swimming spots and canyoning as well as Val Codera with lake views and an original hamlet, which is only accessible by foot.

Towards South

On a well-developed net of cycle paths and on the trails of a Transalp Classic coming from Chiavenna one first reaches Lago di Mezzola when heading south. At the end of the Pian di Spagna Natural Reserve this lake flows into Lake Como. Swimming, kite-surfing, kayaking. Here the watersports enthusiasist gets one’s money’s worth. Also off the classic season hikers can choose from various tours.

Towards East the Valtellina spreads out with its fantastic vineyard terraces and the enchanting flanking valleys Val Masino/Val di Mello and Valmalenco. Most impressive Alps scenery. In any case warranting a daytrip!
